WHAT IS SHOCK WAVE?

MOA: shock waves exert stress in tissue via 2 mechanisms: 
Acoustic waves that carry energy and when propagating through a medium, can be targeted and focused noninvasively to affect a distant selected anatomical region.
-Direct mechanical stress associated with the high-amplitude shock wave
-The growth and violent collapse of cavitation bubbles in fluid (injury within the blood vessels vs surrounding tissue). Smaller vessels (capillaries) will be subject to greater stress than larger vessels causing shear stress and damage of the endothelium resulting in neovascularization (formation of new blood vessels).
